For many the term "ski mountaineering" conjures images of the Alps or similar ranges and the use of light heel-free skis in steeper mountainous terrain. Well, that's exactly what it is!
The highest mountain range of Bulgaria, Rila Mountains with its highest mount in the Balkan Peninsula - Musala 2925m, and Pirin Mountains with Vihren 2914m, is the right place for skimountaineering.
The use of this technique allows rapid approaches to the mountains, and those who wish to develop good downhill skills will have to experience the forthcoming days with many challenging days at their ski-tips.
Circular or through tours, with a few stopover nights at hotel or mountain hut, will give a memorable experience and probably ignite the intention to make repeat trips.
It is possible to put together a great variety of tours and by judicious choice of places to overnight to tackle numerous rewarding and interesting peaks.
